The Măgurele domain had, over the years, various owners, one of the most important families was that of the Cantacuzinos. When they decided to sell it, a large portion of it was bought by Ioan Oteteleșanu.
After both Ioan and his wife Elena Oteteleșanu died at the end of the 19th century, the beautiful domain and the manor were to be administrated by Ioan Kalinderu, together with all the fortune of the Oteteleșanu family. He was also a member of the Romanian Academy, which in 1893, received the Oteteleșanu domain of Măgurele as a donation. According to the wishes of the last owners, the manor was converted to a girls boarding school. At this moment the building underwent a restoration and alteration process to house the new function. In 1898, the building was extended with two other wings.
Between 1945-1950, the manor suffered several other transformations to house the Atomic Physics Institute. Currently the manor is in the administration of the National Institute for the Research and Development of Materials’ Physics.
