In 1911, the construction of the Buşteni castle and related architectural compex is completed. Built at the demand of Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino „Nababul” (“The Nabob”) in Neo-romanian style, the castle is raised in stone and brick following the blueprints of architect Grigore Cerchez. Developed around the country house, the residential ensemble includes a secondary mansion, an administrative villa and a private chapel, strewn along the paths of the lush romantic gardens.

After 1948, the castle was seized by the state. Transformed into a sanatorium for pulmonary diseases, the building lost the beauty and riches of the past. The luxurious furniture, the sculptures or the silver mirrors disappeared altogether, and the frescoes that once covered the walls were covered in a layer of rough paint. After the 1989, the castle was returned to the rightful heirs. The ensemble was then sold to an investment group, that refurbished the castle and opened it for tourism.

Today, the reception parlor in the castle houses an impressive heraldic collection depicting the history of Cantacuzino family, and by capitalizing the beautiful architectural details, the entire building regained once more its distinguished air.
