The castle in Criş, located approximately 30 kilometers from Sighişoara, belonged to the Bethlen family since the beginning of its history. Due to its advantageous position, the castle remained intact for centuries.
The mansion, with a first stage of construction dated probably in the 15th century, is one of the most beautiful examples of residential and defensive architecture dating from the Renaissance to be found in today's Romania. The oldest part of the ensemble is the main tower, which has 5 stories and a decorative frieze representing archers on the upper register.
The castle was inhabited until its expropriation, after which it housed a series of functions leading to its rapid degradation. In June 2007, the castle was given back to the Bethlen family, who wishes to restore and integrate it in the tourist circuit. Mysterious and picturesque, the castle is open to the wide public.
