The Murfatlar estate became the property of Kogălniceanu family in 1885, when the great politician and writer Mihail Kogălniceanu bought it from Hagi Me(h)met Aralam bey, a member of a family of landowners well-known at the time in Constanţa County.
The politician’s son, Vasile M. Kogălniceanu, was the one that actually lived at the mansion in Murfatlar, as this was the ideal place from where he could conduct his activity as inspector at the State’s Domain in Dobrogea and administrator of the Mangalia Commune. Vasile Kogălniceanu is historically known for fully supporting the Agrarian Reforms of 1923 and the granting of land to the impoverished peasants.
The building features an Eclectic style, combining elements specific to the Occidental fashion in the 19th century, but also several Moorish influences visible at the tower or the arches. The building has been recently refurbished and prepared to host the No.2 Kindergarten in Murfatlar, but the original metalwork and joinery elements were kept intact. The manor is one of the few modern country houses belonging to Romanian boyars that survived and are listed as historical monument in Dobrogea.
